The setar is closely related to the tar, both in terms of looks, and performance styles and techniques. It is a string instrument with a single bowled body. The player changes the instrument’s pitch using their left hand, while resting the body of the instrument on their right knee. The right index finger plucks and strums the strings in an upward motion to create melodies. The setar has a delicate, expressive, and at times melancholic sound.
